Remedies for Crisis in Electronics Industry/Education by Mr Ron Grill

Date:September 13, 2002
Time:7:00 pm.
Place:WEA, 223 Angas Street, ADELAIDE
Presenter:Ron Grill

Ron Grill is well known for a long association with the electronics' industry and he will address us on Friday September 13 at 7:00 pm at the WEA Cottage 223 Angas St Adelaide about the difficulty this booming industry is having in filling the many job vacancies not only here in South Australia but also elsewhere in Australia. As a result the industry is forced to fill a wide range of well-paid jobs in the automotive, communications (such as Motorola), and aero-space sectors by recruiting from overseas.

The problem starts in our schools that now largely omit any electronics from their curriculum and downplay the importance of maths, physics and chemistry in favour of literature, languages, poetry, computer (operating only skills), crafts and sport.

Ron has some ideas to help reverse this situation that some of us may be able help him with. This could be an opportunity to give the electronics' industry much needed staff, give some of our youth some wider choice of employment and some of you some satisfaction in helping this happen.
